    The Partnership

To build on the Chamber's commitment to community and economic development, in 2012, the Chamber launched a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliate, called the Partnership for a Sustainable Community. The Partnership applies business leadership to solve community problems and create opportunities. Signature programs include the State of the Community Report and Conference, the Inter-City Visit and Leadership Conference, and Leadership Chapel Hill-Carrboro. The Partnership also coordinates The Hundred Club of Orange County, which provides financial support to the families of Orange County first responders killed in the line of duty.

    History

The Chamber began in 1942 as the “Chapel Hill-Carrboro Merchants Association, Inc.” Approximately twenty years later (1963), a separate organization launched, called the “Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce Incorporated” and about fifteen years later (1979), the two organizations merged into “The Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce.” In 1989, the organization began referred to it self as the “Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce.” In 2019, the organization unveiled a contemporary new brand to reflect the growing network and region it serves, and began doing business as "The Chamber" with a tagline, "For a Greater Chapel Hill-Carrboro."
