- Employment Claims Are Up: During 2011, more claims against employers were filed with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission than in any year in its 46-year history. More claims were filed with the EEOC in North Carolina than in all but three other states.
- Even employers that are not covered by federal equal employment opportunity laws can be sued for wrongful discharge and contract violations under state law. Such smaller businesses are particularly ill-equipped to defend such claims.
- Employment claims are costly and wasteful, and employers can reduce the risk of claims through simple and inexpensive measures.
