Recognizing the men and women of service in our community
Each December at a festive after hours event, the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber recognizes the men and women who are committed to making Chapel Hill-Carrboro a thriving, healthy and sustainable community.
At the 2016 event, the Chamber will recognize:
- Carrboro Police Officer of the Year: Sergeant David Deshaies
- UNC Public Safety Employee of the Year: Sergeant Keith Ellington
- Chapel Hill Police Officer of the Year: Officer Mark North
- Orange County Emergency Services Employees of the Year: Field Training Officer James Johnson and Logistics Manager Alton Matthews
- Orange County Sheriff Employee of the Year: Sergeant Chad Riley
- Chapel Hill Firefighter of the Year: Lieutenant Jeffrey Ryan
- Carrboro Firefighter of the Year: Relief Driver/Department Chaplain Steve Jordan
The Chamber will also present the following awards:
- Citizen of the Year: Maggie West, Community Empowerment Fund
- Jim Gibson Volunteer of the Year: Cresha Cianciolo, Community Home Trust
- Town and Gown Award Recipient: Dina Rousset, Launch Chapel Hill
- Irene Briggaman Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient: Mae McLendon, Inter-Faith Council for Social Service
The event is free to attend and open to the public. No registration required. Refreshments are provided.
