Event Description:

Chamber members are invited to join us  at the February Non-Profit Roundtable to hear from Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens. Mayor Stevens will present Strategies of Exceptional Organizations: Secrets For Wildly Successful Strategic Planning.

Designed especially for boards and executive staff of local non-profits, this workshop introduces essential ideas to accelerate the future success of non-profits:

  • staging for meaningful strategic planning retreats
  • avoiding all-to-common errors that keep organizations from achieving their potential,
  • and using a strategic plan as a touchstone for strategic actions that can move organizations from average to exceptional.

This brief workshop is packed with important content, including:

  • the one key thing that guides exceptional organizations (that an astonishing number of non-profits don’t give any attention);
  • closing the gap between mission and ‘on-the-ground’ actions;
  • how strategic planning is different from action planning…(and what your organization should do about it);
  • 4 perspectives to consider when creating strategic objectives;
  • why building your organization’s "brand" is critical;
  • show me the money - aligning the organization’s financial and resource needs with strategy

Chamber member organizations are highly encouraged to send multiple participants - executive directors, board members, anyone who is charged with leadership, strategic planning, and management. This event is free to attend, but as we have limited space, registration is required! Register online, or connect with Laura Morrison at (919) 357-9989 to reserve your spot.

About the facilitator: Tom Stevens is in his forth decade of working in and with non-profits, including staff, executive, board, and consulting experience. Tom’s 20+ years as a social worker included several non-profit staff positions, and 12 years as the executive director of a leading agency in Durham. Since launching his consulting company in 2001, Tom’s has helped non-profit agencies (and businesses) by facilitating strategic planning retreats and executive coaching for executives. He has served as an officer on non-profit boards, including Leadership Triangle, the Durham Council for the Prevention of Child Abuse, and the Raleigh/Durham Chapter of the Association for Corporate Growth...and of course, serves as Mayor of Hillsborough, a town regularly studied by other public entities for it’s expertise in strategic planning.
